How to Prepare for Your Home Inspection
Preparing for your home inspection ensures a smooth and efficient process. Below are specific guidelines for the different types of inspections we offer: Four-Point Inspection, Wind Mitigation Inspection, and Roof Certification.
General Tips
Pets: Please secure pets in a safe area away from where the inspection will take place.
Access: Ensure that all gates, doors, and hatches are unlocked or accessible for the inspector.
Documentation: If available, gather any relevant documentation (such as recent repairs or upgrades) that may be helpful during the inspection.
Preparing your home following these guidelines will help ensure a thorough and efficient inspection process. If you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to contact us.
4 Point
A Four-Point Inspection covers four major areas of your home: the roof, electrical system, plumbing, and HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning). To prepare for this inspection:
Electrical System: Ensure we have access to the electrical panel. We will need to remove the panel cover, so clear any obstructions.
Roof: We will take photos of the roof. Ensure there are no items blocking access to the roof, and clear the area around your home for easy movement.
HVAC: Provide clear access to the air handler. Remove any items that may obstruct access.
Plumbing: We need to photograph under sinks and behind the washer. Please clear out any items stored under sinks or in the laundry area.
Make sure the water heater is accessible for inspection and photographs.
Wind Mitigation
A Wind Mitigation Inspection assesses your home’s wind-resistant features, which can help reduce insurance premiums. To prepare:
Exterior Access:
Ensure we have unobstructed access around the exterior of your home. Clear any debris, plants, or objects that may hinder our movement.
Attic Access:
Make sure the attic access is clear. We may need to enter the attic to inspect your roof’s structural components, so please ensure the area is accessible.
Roof Certification (RCF)
A Roof Certification focuses on the condition of your roof. To prepare:
Exterior Access:
As with wind mitigation, ensure we have clear access around the exterior of your home.
Roof Access:
Ensure the roof is accessible for inspection. Clear any debris or obstacles around the home to allow easy movement.
